6/24/10 - Last weekend, the UW-Madison Concrete Canoe Team traveled to San Luis Obispo, California for the 23rd annual National Concrete Canoe Competition. The team's 2010 entry, Centennial, placed fifth overall, highlighted by several top five finishes in the races, fourth place in aesthetics, and third place in presentation!

The team would like to again thank our sponsors and supporters for all that has been given to us. We would not have the success of this years canoe without them!

Photos from the competition will be put online once they have been compiled, next week. The top five design papers have been posted online!

6/14/10 - The Canoe Team has packed Centennial away into the trailer and the team is leaving town for the National Concrete Canoe Competition in San Luis Obispo, California. Good luck to the other competing teams! This year is sure to be one of the best competitions to date, and the Wisconsin Concrete Canoe Team looks forward to presenting their best effort! Updates will be posted online after the team returns to Wisconsin.

4/21/10 - The University of Wisconsin - Madison Concrete Canoe Team is off to Terre Haute, Indiana for the Great Lakes Regional Conference. The team is proud to dedicate this year's canoe, 'Centennial', to the 100 year anniversary of UW-Madison's fight song 'On Wisconsin!'. Composed in 1909 by William T. Purdy, 'On, Wisconsin!' exemplifies what it means to be a badger, and guides the University and the UW-Madison Team in it's pursuits.

This year, the canoe is back in black featuring a primarily dyed black canoe for the first time since Rock Solid. In an effort to give this year's canoe the same energy as 'On, Wisconsin!', a series of intricate overlays and inlays provide one of the most impressive aesthetic displays the UW-Madison Team has produced.

We will leave with a photo of a portion of 'Centennial' taken prior to packing and will provide additional photos of the canoe and the competition early next week. Good luck to the teams of the Great Lakes Regional Conference and other teams who have yet to compete!

A preview of UW-Madison's 2010 Entry: Centennial

ON, WISCONSIN!

4/1/10 - The Great Lakes Regional Conference is just around the corner, with less than three weeks until the 2010 Entry will make its' trip to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. Each year the participants of our region bring great boats and high competition, and every year brings new innovations and more impressive canoes. To take our best shot at Regionals, the UW-Madison Canoe Team is working hard through Spring Break and is looking forward to seeing the final product sanded smooth and put on display.

If you haven't made it down to the lab lately, you'll see a lot of progress but we still need everyones help to finish with everything we want to take to regionals. The coming weeks will be fast paced and web updates will be limited, but look for the theme and more information about this years canoe around the weekend of Regionals.

3/17/10 - The canoe is in the process of flipping to finalize hull dimensional finishing and the canoe is being sanded to 2000 grit while aesthetic placement and finishing is underway.

Next General Meeting: Thursday 3/18 at 6PM in 1045 ECB!
- Topics of discussion will include updates on the canoe, paper, presentation and display projects. New members are welcome and the canoe will be flipped after the updates.

The cross section has been placed and display projects are in progress for regionals. Presentation practice will begin shortly. If you're not already working on a project stop down to lend a hand so we can take a great product to competition!

Theme hints and announcement will be made online in the coming weeks.

2/26/10 - Sanding, design paper revisions, and preparation of the display for regionals are all in progress. To help stop by the canoe lab or talk to the co-chairs to find out when you can help. The team has had a strong start to the semester but will be needing everyone's effort to make a strong showing at regional competition.

Weekly pool paddling practices have ended for the semester and paddling on the Yahara river will begin shortly (weather permitting). Contact Julie if you are interested in joining paddling practices this spring!

More updates to come, feel free to contact the team or stop by the lab during work sessions to see how the theme and canoe are coming together prior to its' debut at Regionals!

1/22/10 - The Wisconsin-Madison Concrete Canoe Team is hard at work on the 2010 entry for the Concrete Canoe Competition to be held at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology this April. Due to the nature of the competition we are keeping some details hush-hush but we will continue bringing out more details on the team and the canoe as Regionals approaches!
